SLMDA Gives Back: Donations and Health Screenings for Vulnerable Communities

In keeping with our commitment to community service and social responsibility, a cross-section of the executive members recently conducted a series of charitable activities aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our society. 1. Supporting Children and Families at Variety Children and Family Services, KingtomOn our first stop, we visited the Variety Children and Family Services in Kingtom, where we made donations of essential food items to the children and presented monetary tokens to the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to care for them. The administration of the facility has extended their profound gratitude to all SLMDA members for bringing joy to the children and making a meaningful impact on their lives. 2. Extending a Helping Hand to the Elderly at King George VI Memorial HomeWe also had the privilege of visiting the King George VI Memorial Home, where we donated food items to the residents and provided monetary tokens to each individual. In addition to the donations, our team conducted health screenings for both the residents and staff. These screenings included:• Weight measurementBlood pressure (BP) check• Pulse rate (PR) assessment• Random blood sugar (RBS) testing• Temperature checksThe residents and staff expressed their heartfelt appreciation and sent their prayers for blessings upon all those who contributed to this noble initiative. These acts of service would not have been possible without the support and generosity of our members. We extend our deepest appreciation to every member of the SLMDA who contributed in any way to making this initiative a success. Your commitment to both medical excellence and humanitarian service continues to uplift lives across Sierra Leone. Together, we are making a difference! Thank you all for making this happen.

SLMDA HOSPITAL VISIT SERIES

Our executive members embarked on a Hospital Visit Series to various hospitals in Freetown, including Sierra Leone Psychiatric Hospital , Rokupa Government Hospital, Ola During Children’s Hospital and Kingherman Maternal and Child Health Hospital .This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize the welfare of our colleagues. During these visits, we engaged in candid discussions about crucial issues affecting healthcare professionals, such as poor working conditions, human resource challenges, and administrative shortcomings. The meetings were incredibly productive, and we’re grateful for the valuable insights shared by everyone involved. Leading the team was the chair of our welfare committee, ensuring focused and impactful engagement throughout the visits. Their leadership was instrumental in facilitating meaningful conversations and identifying actionable solutions to address the challenges faced by our healthcare community. We’re committed to using the information gathered during these visits to advocate for positive change and improve the working conditions for all healthcare professionals in Sierra Leone. Together, we’ll continue to strive for a healthcare system that supports both our colleagues and the communities we serve.
